Behind City Hall, in the midst of the downtown core of Kelowna BC, lies a little piece of Japan. In 1981, Kelowna signed a Sister City Agreement with Kasugai, Japan. At a ceremony on July 24, 1987, Kelowna unveiled Kasugai Gardens in honour of their sister city. Donations of a substantial quantity of supplies were made from local businesses. For the next few years visits and gifts of timber and bamboo came from Kasugai.

Shortly after this ceremony, a landscape architect from Japan presented our garden with several stone lanterns to cast a simple glow through the gorgeous garden. The friendship of our two cities is reflected in the garden by a tranquil waterfall, a boulder-ringed Koi pond, a wharf, cobblestone bench, and of course beautiful Japanese flowers, trees and foliage. There is also a tea house and a summer house.
